What Used to Be Engaging in School

Not too long ago, when I was in school, watching a video or film felt like a special treat. Before everyone had access to personal devices and endless entertainment options, a movie in class was exciting!

 Today, students have constant access to entertainment on their phones, and educational videos often feel boring by comparison. Their attention spans are shorter, and they tend to prefer short, fast‑paced content; even I find myself drawn to shorter videos now, despite growing up in a different educational context.

I often wonder what new technologies or innovations will emerge that could create another paradigm shift in education. The situation keeps changing, and I’m curious about what might come next.

Back in my country, we used to pay per minute just to talk to someone on the phone, and international calls were even more expensive. When Facebook arrived, many people in my social circle were hesitant to use it because they feared talking to strangers or worried about the potential negative impacts. Over time, perspectives shifted, and people began to see that social media could also be used for meaningful, positive purposes. Today, technology feels so familiar that new inventions don’t always seem as impressive as they once did. But I believe that when we understand how to navigate these tools, the fear surrounding them becomes easier to manage.   Making Learning Fun and Interactive Through Technology Making learning fun and interactive has always been one of my core teaching philosophies. I believe that when students are actively engaged, they learn more deeply and retain more knowledge. Technology in the classroom plays a major role in achieving this goal; it opens creative pathways for participation, collaboration, and exploration. I’m grateful that the technologies introduced in this course have been so relevant to instruction. Some of the tools have given me ideas for improving my teaching and classroom interaction. Many of these platforms can be especially beneficial for foreign and second-language learning, where engagement and authentic communication are essential. One of my favorite tools so far is Padlet.
